Thoughts Afire!

09-23-2005

Despicable Democrats have really shown their ignorance, pettiness, and shamelessness after the recent landfall of Hurricane Katrina.

Of course, they say, it is all President George W. Bush's fault! Some have accused him of spawning the hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean this year because he did not sign the Kyoto Protocol! Nation of Islam (black Muslims) leader Louis Farrakhan claims that the President had the New Orleans levees blown in order to kill black citizens. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson wasted no time in claiming that these people were not evacuated because that they were black. And, naturally, several top Democrats shrilled that the President did not do enough, nor did he move fast enough, to relieve the suffering. They make me sick!

Black Democrat New Orleans mayor C. Ray Nagin came out of the disaster unscathed, although he left hundreds of school buses to drown in the parking lots, rather than using them to evacuate the city's residents.

Democrat Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco also escaped criticism, although it was her responsibility to send in the national guard, and other relief agents. Instead, Nagin, Blanco, and the top Washington Democrats immediately pointed their fingers at President Bush, who had apparently practically begged Blanco to prepare for the impending disaster. Instead, for political reasons, Blanco refused to declare a state of emergency, and rebuffed the President's attempt to take charge of the evacuation and its aftermath.

From a Washington Post online article dated 09/04/2005: "Behind the scenes, a power struggle emerged, as federal officials tried to wrest authority from Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D). Shortly before midnight Friday, the Bush administration sent her a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans, a source within the state's emergency operations center said Saturday."

And this:

"Louisiana officials rejected the request after talks throughout the night, concerned that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law. Some officials in the state suspected a political motive behind the request."

Ironically, these same people rushed to blame the President for slow response and lack of coordination with the state and local officials.

Chaos and lawlessness reigned in a flooded New Orleans, as rescuers were shot at by desperate residents, as well as what may have been out-of-town criminals.

In the Superdome and the Convention Center, people waited for days without food and water, while the Red Cross and Salvation Army were turned away by Nagin's administrative people, who said that they feared that the people would not want to leave if they had food and water! In the meantime, elderly and sick people, and little babies, died in the heat while they waited.

As usual, President Bush showed tremendous grace under pressure while his political adversaries had a field day with the disaster. Thank God for a man who is big enough to stand up to the unusual demands placed upon him, even as Democrats hurl slander and insults all the while!

Read the Republican Contract With America that liberals still refer to contemptuously, and see what you think (notice that Bill Clinton took credit for much of what it undertook).

Now that the dust from the 2000 Presidential election has settled, we need to lobby for:

(1) Election day should a national holiday to allow an equal chance for all voters to go to the polls, not just union members, welfare recipients, and retirees.

(2) All polls must be closed in the entire United States before news people can start projecting winners.

(3) News stations, newspapers, and magazines must state their party affiliation or leaning. Opinions must be identified as such and not passed off as "news".

(4) In close elections, there must be a four-member canvassing board to review hand counts. They should consist of two representatives of each party whose candidate stands to win or lose on the strength of the recount. A minimum of three people must decide for whom the ballot was cast, else it is rejected as a non-vote.
